This week we were to create an isohyet map illustrating mean annual precipitation for the state of Georgia using Adobe Illustrator to draw the isolines. Drawing the contours was the easy part. I wanted to shade between the lines but COULD NOT figure it out. I wasted a lot of time trying to make it work.
This week we had to construct a distributive flow map of immigration to the United States. We were given data from the US Department of Homeland Security to use in order to calculate the appropriate flow line width for the map you see above. The most time consuming part of this assignment was separating the regions.
This week I was assigned to make a Dot Distribution Map showing the number of housing units in Florida counties based on data collected during the 2000 census. The only problem I had was the amount of time it took to place all the dots.
I am a GIS Technician for the 9-1-1 district in Midland, TX. I was first introduced to GIS when my current employer promoted me to the GIS Technician position. This was a challenge for me because I had no prior GIS experience. With guidance and a few training courses, I have matured in the position but am looking to have a better understanding towards every aspect of GIS.
